A Purpose Driven Life Chapter 25 - Transformed by Trouble
Chapter Overview: Rick writes that god uses our circumstances even more than the bible to change us. He points out that Moses, Job, Joseph, and David were all changed this way. And he spent a good part of the chapter focussed on the verse 'God works all things together for good for them who love him and are called according to his purpose.' He also suggested to watch how we pray about our trials.2011 (40 years old)
Philip Yancey has a new book out that I read a review on a little while ago. In it he compares how believers in North America pray about their trials versus how believers in China do. North Americans say please take the problem away where the Chinese believers don't ask for it to be taken away - rather they ask for help to learn whatever it is that God wants them to learn through the situation. 'to know Christ and the fellowship of his sufferings...' 'Jesus learned obedience through suffering...'2016 (45 years old)
Transformed by trouble and trials. There is purpose behind every problem. Romans 8:28. 'We know that all things work together for good for those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose'. What problem in my life has caused the greatest growth in me? I don't know if I'd call it a problem - challenge my that be a better term... But I'd say my marriage. This chapter has been kind of echoing the thoughts I've had for the past couple of days about seeing Gods hand in circumstances - that they are all coming through a 'father-filter'. Even other people's criticism, lack of support and encouragement and attitude. He's ok'ed it and ready to use it if we recognize it. The thing I got out of this chapter this morning is how I am supposed to respond - remember God is good. Rejoice and give thanks. Refuse to give up.For background on what these 'Purpose Driven Life' posts are about, click this link.
