A Purpose Driven Life Chapter 26 - Transformed by Temptation
Chapter Overview: Rick walks through the four stages (or the progression of temptation to transgression). He also points out that it's important to know where and when your weaknesses are.2011 (40 years old)
Probably the most interesting thing I got out of this chapter was how Rick spun temptation in a positive light. Every successful resistance to temptation is a win. Even being tempted is good as it give you an opportunity to grow and know that you mist be doing something good to get tempted. In my case, when I'm alone, demoralized, and/or tired.2016 (45 years old)
Growing through temptation. Every temptation is an opportunity to do good. What Christlike character quality can I develop by defeating my most common temptation? Love and Joy I think. If I am growing in the character of Christ when I resist temptation, I think love and joy are the fruit of the spirit that I let get taken from me the most frequently. The path of temptation:- Desire. Temptation always starts within you - not from outside circumstances. Thoughts and shortcuts. 'You deserve it'.
- Doubt. Is that really what God meant? Is it really wrong? Often a question.
- Deception. The half truths that you use to justify the action. Or the Satan used to encourage you to do it.
- Disobedience. The act.
Recognize patterns and situations where you are more easily tempted - tired, depressed and doubt, when you see others do it (tv and movies). Call for help! God has a 24 hot line. When people are tempted and still continue strong, they should be happy
